What it takes to improve

I want to physically morph my body into a new shape. When someone wants to lose weight that is essentially what they mean. No one wants to look exactly as they did before but have 50 fewer pounds. They want to improve their overall physical being. Consider it for a moment. Consider the slow process that occurs during weight loss. The body within the skin starts to change and adapt. Certain areas that looked full start to become empty. Other areas become tighter as muscles begin to develop more fully. This continues along until the person becomes content with their shape. It is that simple. The question that must first be addressed though is, “what does it take to make that happen”?

In order for the body to change from what it is to something it isn’t certain things must be done. These things need to be things that have not been done before or at least not within recent memory. You see, if you had been doing these things, then your body would look a certain way. So what are these things? They are food and exercise. A person must put good food inside of themselves and at the right amount. Once they are doing that, they must put their body under physical stress. When the body is placed under stress, it changes and adapts to be able to handle that stress. Lift something heavy a few times. The muscle under stress suffers microscopic tears. The muscle then undergoes a transformation as the tears are repaired, leaving the muscle stronger than ever before.

Someone that has not been exercising therefore needs to start. Often we start simple and progress from there. As the individual partakes more often in exercise, their body will change and adapt to better handle it. It is because of this that there is always an increase and change in the exercise program. Remember, to get better you must do more. This does not always mean more time, it could be different intensity or exercises, but a challenge needs to be had.

Until you are healthy and happy with your body, keep moving forward. Staying in your comfort zone will prevent you from improving. Only through putting yourself through a challenging situation and finding a way to overcome it is when you will truly grow.
